San Francisco part 5

Day 5 was such a fun day... We left San Fran and headed to Carmel/Monterey in the convertible.  It was cold and foggy which made for a bundled up car ride!

We stopped in a few cute towns along the way...

And we went strawberry picking!!

I had no idea that there were so many farms in California-- I mean there are obviously orange farms but who knew they grew everything else under the sun?  The majority of our drive, we saw miles upon miles of pumpkins, corn, strawberries, lettuce, and many more fruits and veggies being grown.  We obviously stopped at multiple farmer's markets but nothing's fresher than picking it yourself!

We also stopped in Moss Landing, CA where we stumbled upon Phil's Fish Market (as in Phil's Fish Market vs. Bobby Flay in the Bobby Flay throwdown on the Food Channel!).  They competed with Cioppino recipes and Phil's won!  Of course we had to try it, and boy were we glad :)  It is a huuuge bowl full of a tomato base with all sorts of fish, shrimp, crab, etc. melding together.  Yum.

We finally got to Pacific Grove/Pebble Beach in the early afternoon (only with the Cashes would a 2 hour car ride turn into 6)-- and we drove the famous "17 mile drive" so Nathan could see his beloved Pebble Beach golf course.  Although he didn't get to play it (we'll save that $550 thank you very much), we loved the drive and watching people play the course :)

One of the stops along the drive was to look at a huge rock full of sea lions...

Ahh there are WAY too many of them!!

Here we are on the 18th hole-- maybe some day he'll be able to play there while I prance around the fancy hotel...

That night, we drove to Monterey where we taste-tested tons of clam chowders, walked around the Cannery, and saw many. more. sea lions.  He looks cute and innocent, but when you walk all the way down the pier, you see all of his brothers and sisters...

There are wayyy too many sea lions for my taste...
