San Francisco part 4

This day, I think Nathan was out to get me...
Remember when he convinced me to bike down the volcano in Maui which turned into switchback upon switchback, with a 2 foot wide bike lane right next to zooming cars, with cliffs inches away from me?  Oh yes and that was for about 28 miles...

Well, this was no volcano bike ride, but biking the Golden Gate Bridge consisted of many hills (in which I pronounced "This is stupid!" and walked my bike), rainy (code word for slippery) weather, cars zooming by inches away from me, and the Pacific Ocean staring at me from a verrry long distance down...

The beginning of the bike ride was delightful, seeing all the boats in the harbor, pelicans and seals hanging out near the pier, and the fog beautifully masking the bridge.

This little fellow was waiting for some leftover crab!

After we biked over the bridge and then squeezing my brakes for 20 minutes, we ended up in the quaint town of Sausalito!

We parked our bikes (woo hoo!) and had brunch-- I had smoked salmon eggs benedict and fries-- then we walked around, checking out all the little shops.  I bought my one piece of clothing for the trip at a place called Hubba Hubba-- very shabby chic but not crazy prices.

We loved Sausalito so much, we wanted to come back and check it out-- so after our ferry ride, we hopped in the convertible and headed back over the Golden Gate Bridge...

We drove around the beautiful neighborhoods in Sausalito then drove to Tiburon (another cute city nearby)...

We got back just in time for our night tour of Alcatraz!  We took an audio tour that lasted about 45 minutes (very creepy at night) then we went to a program on the "sounds of Alcatraz" including listening to the horrific sounds of the cell doors opening and closing. Check out this video here (although not near as good as in person) Video

We ended up in North Beach for a perfect little dinner outside (with an overhead heater since it was in the 50's) at Calzone's.  Not many restaurants were open at 11 PM on a Sunday so we were definitely taking a chance eating here without researching it... but it was truly fabulous!  We had a meat sampler for an appetizer, prawn alfredo (with blue cheese, pine nuts and artichokes) and ended with a lemon tart.  YUM!  One of my favorite meals in San Fran.  It was so fun eating outside so we could watch everything going on in North Beach.

  1. What an adventurous day!
I'll definitely be taking the ferry on my next trip from SF to Sausalito. Nathan really captured "the look" in one of those photos, lol.

    p.s. Fries with eggs benedict...really?
